In 2000, Germany was the world’s largest lignite producer, the world’s third-largest producer of potash, Western Europe’s second-largest producer of kaolin, a major European producer of crude gypsum, and self-sufficient in feldspar and salt. The only metal mineral still mined in Germany was uranium.
